Day 1 of this course provides a broad overview of the NFIP and floodplain management. It is a condensed version of the topics covered in the 4-day EL0273 EMI course. This course provides a brief overview and introduction to the NFIP, focusing on essential concepts of floodplain management such as flood maps and studies, floodplain management regulations and minimum standards required by the NFIP, ordinance administration, and flood insurance.
Day 2 of this course is essential for individuals working in floodplain management in NJ and for understanding NJ higher regulatory floodplain management standards. Day 2 will cover topics including NJ REAL rules, the Inland Flood Protection rules, the NJ model code-coordinated flood damage prevention ordinance, methods of determining the local design flood elevation, responsibilities and role of the local floodplain administrator.
Although this course is open to the general public, priority will be given to government officials when registering. This 2-day course is geared towards Local officials responsible for administering local floodplain management ordinances, including but not limited to floodplain management administrators, building inspectors, code enforcement/zoning officers, planners, city/county managers, attorneys, engineers, and public works officials. Federal/state/regional floodplain managers also are encouraged to attend.
